Mehndi Tattoos/Designs

For years, the art of mehndi tattoos has been widely practiced in all of India as this has been a part of their culture. The mehndi, which is made from henna or dye, is an important aspect of their celebration rituals like engagements, weddings, pregnancy, and family get-together.Mendie tattoos also became a part of the culture of many countries within the Indian region like Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh as well. The henna, which is applied on the skin, is made from ground henna leaves mixed with oil. The process produces a very dark liquid that is then used for Mendie tattoos. The henna is usually applied to the skin with the use of a cone, a brush or sometimes, with a jacquard bottle. Once the skin is decorated, it is wrapped in cloth in order to preserve the heat. This will then cause the henna to create a darker pigment on the skin. The wrap is worn for about three to six hours. Tattoos usually last for one to three weeks depending on the type of the skin and how dark the henna paste is.

People who wanted to experience having lavish designs on their bodies but didn’t wan’t to get permanent tattoos try mehndi instead. The tattoos are often applied on the hands and feet as these are the areas where the henna will appear darkest. But nowadays, people apply the art on the different parts of their bodies as well. There are no rules as to what mehndi designs can be drawn on the skin. Mehndi designs for hands and legs can be very intricate and elaborate to depict elegance and lavishness, especially during occasions like wedding ceremonies.
